Thousands of jewelry lines come out of L.A. — but very few feel as innovative and fashion-forward as the trio we've distilled below. In each, mixed materials and a style-savvy perspective make the magic happen. 

Sophie Monet

Native Angelino Sophie Monet hand-crafts jewelry out of natural wood left over from the sculptures and works of art her father, artist John Okulick, leaves behind. The two share a studio in Los Angeles, and confab on all things arty.

New at (the shop)....Nettie Kent

We are so excited to have a new addition to our collective, Nettie Kent is based in Brooklyn and goes by the motto, "Brass is the new Gold."  

Recently, she was interviewed by Aggy Deyn for Naag.com. 

Aggy: Describe your jewelry in one sentence.
Nettie: Mermaid meets city streets and keeps her cool.

Aggy: Where do you get your inspiration?

Nettie: I never know what will spark an idea so I carry a sketch book with me always. I notice shapes; I think it must be my training as a painter. My sketchbook is full of shapes and from some of those shapes pieces take form. My first collection was very organic, very ocean. My work still reflects the beach bum in me, but since moving back to New York I have soaked up my new surroundings and have seen a difference in my work. It’s more geometric.

 It still has that organic quality but with harder lines. There is more of it — way more!

Fancytreehouse - besides the fact that I obsess over her Brigitte Bardot hair,

stylorectic : one of my favorite bloggers, she never tries too hard even when 

wearing all white does sway in that manner. But, add a chic moto jacket - badass.

Without a doubt The New World Order in the Lower East Side. Owner Renee Bejil curates one of the most meticulous shops with amazing high end brands, Lanvin, Thierry Mugler, YSL, Dior & Vivienne Westwood. If you're looking for more rock and roll vibe, hit up Search and Destroy in the East Village.

what's your city's best jewelry lines?
Best and most favorite is Luv Aj and CC Skye. I just received the fabulous crystal chunk knucklebuster ring and a body chain from Luv Aj, wear them everyday. Such amazing, eye stopper pieces and can wear with everything.

Seeking PR/Social Media Intern #SF #LA

We are hiring a PR/Social Media intern for (the shop). 

Unpaid internship for fall/winter 2011.  Academic credit given. 

Must commit 2-3 days minimum and available to start mid-August (through mid-Dec)

Responsibilities include:

- assisting at photo shoots

- events production (pop-up's and sample sales)

- online research 

- blogging and managing social media sites

- assisting in sample requests/returns from magazines & stylists

Requirements include: 

- located in San Francisco or Los Angeles

- highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Photoshop

- interested in social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, etc) 

- punctual, attention to details and good multi-tasker

- excellent communication and writing skills

- highly interested in the fashion industry w/knowledge of contemporary lines in menswear, womens & accessories
