Menswear Monday: 3 Ways To Style Up For Spring

The Robert Geller ‘Andreas’ Sunglasses aesthetic embody the same clean-lined and refined elements that made Geller the excellent craftsman he is today. Yes please.

Layering goes a long way. This sweater is perfect and the colors work great together.

I love fashion risk takers, and this plaid suit is a perfect example of why. The skinny navy tie and brown leather watch pull the whole look together.

'Til next Monday!

Meet Courtney Lowe of L.A. Vintage Exchange

Courtney Lowe of L.A. Vintage Exchange

M: How did you get into selling vintage?
C: I started thrift'ing in small town Minnesota before I could drive or really have an opinion of what was tacky vs. treasure.  When I moved West, so did some of my favorite pieces.  I continued to build a collection once in LA.  I was working full time at an ecommerce fashion start-up when I met friend and designer, Lizz Wasserman.  She also had a healthy collection of vintage that we frequently discussed and compared.  The Silver Lake Flea market had just started in our neighborhood, so we decided to start selling on the weekends.  LA Vintage Exchange was born and next came the studio, online and local boutiques.

M: Three things to know when shopping for a vintage item(s)?
C: Depending where you shop - the store may not have a well merchandised point-of-view.  Have something in mind when you're combing the racks - pay attention to the material, print and colors that pop out. Second, vintage sizes run small - don't be shy to try on piece with a size you may be tempted to remove after you purchase.  And third, mixing vintage favorites with contemporary designers like Rag & Bone, Rebecca Minkoff and Vena Cava helps create the perfect outfit synergy.   Avoid looking costumey by combining classics with the unique and unexpected.

M: Your dream vintage wish?
C: A vintage-thrift adventure across middle america with the main road-trip essentials: a RV, cash money, my dog & a few of my favorite thrifting friends.

M: What are your favorite LA weekend haunts?
C:  Rose bowl.  Space 15 Twenty Sunday flea market. Wasteland. TENOVERSIX (just to drool).

M: The best thing about LA is ____________________, and the worst is ________________.
C: Best: lots of sun-shiny days.  Worst: handful of icky-smoggy days.

For the love of vintage, we can't wait to see what Courtney has in store for us!  See you tomorrow at All Vintage Everything!

Menswear Monday: Sophisticated Looks

Stefano Pilati dons an oversized orange trench coat and slightly baggy trousers.
The look is extremely polished, but the oversized silhouettes give it a more casual look that I love.

What's great about this look is that he is not afraid of color.
The orange sweater and pantsmixed with a red brief case is anything but traditional
and paired with a blue shirt & trench, gives it a sophisticated touch.

This long navy coat is incredible, and I love that only a tiny bit of
 the green pants are exposed.

No matter where I turn lately, I've been seeing men in huge oversized trousers.
I think the look is fun and a playful take on a suit.  The shirt unbuttoned at the
top and neck scarf gives the look a more casual feel,  while still being
dressed to impress.

Ode to Coachella.

Here's a look at the amazing fashion of Coachella's past.  Although, I'm not going this year, it's just as exciting to check out what people are wearing.  With temperatures expected to triple digits this weekend in the desert, you can be sure that people will be creative.  Coachella is one of the best places to see and be seen, so I'm sure that people won't compromise amazing outfits just because of a little heat.  Such bands as Arcade Fire, Kings of Leon, Mumford & Sons, The Strokes, The Bloody Beetroots and of course Kanye West, all taking stage, it is sure to be media crazy and the concert goers will be looking their best.  Keep in mind though, the Coachella Festival staples have always been and will always be, cut off denim shorts, a floaty top, and a lot of jewelry.

At Coachella 2009, actress Samantha Droke donned cut off denim shorts and a flowy white top, a comfortable yet stylish choice.  Kate Bosworth opted for a similar look, but I love the strappy yellow sandals that completed her look.

Also in '09, Alexa Chung looked effortlessly cool in a pale yellow romper,
a green pullover and laced up wedges.

Chanel Iman pulled off the staple look.  I love her huge belt, amazing beaded sandals and the pop of color from her red Chanel bag.

Be sure to keep an eye out over the next few days to see what people are wearing.  I can't wait to see what Coachella 2011 brings us.

xx,
Jared

Must Read: Pas Un Autre

We recently caught up with artist, Oliver Maxwell Kupper, to discuss his online journal, Pas Un Autre, which covers an interesting mix of art, fashion, music, photography and more from the perspective of  artists and contributors from around the world.  Check it out!
--LV

What does Pas Un Autre mean and what's the inspiration behind it?
Pas Un Autre means Not Another.  The inspiration behind the name was actually pretty simple. I knew I wanted to start an online journal that wasn't like the "others." A publication that was anomalous and original.  I knew I would feature some pretty weird stuff you wouldn't find elsewhere in the blogosphere mixed with relevant current topics in culture, art, and fashion and then bring in some deeper stuff too, like literature, poetry (I hate the word poetry) - the poetry on Pas Un Autre is not poetry - its better than that - whatever "poetry" I publish on Pas Un Autre has to be totally different and amazing.  I knew picking a name like that, that it connote something. I wanted it to be in French in order to have a little bit of mystery and maybe a little bit of poetic irony or something - it sounded like something from an Artaud poem or the title of of a French New Wave film.  It just fit.

When did you start it? Are there contributors or is it a one man show?
I started Pas Un Autre in January 2009.  There are about 10 contributors from all over the world - people in music, fashion, art, film, photography - it keeps content interesting. Incredible content is the most important thing on Pas Un Autre.  I am always open to contributions, tips, etc.  Pas Un Autre is now at about 45,000 views monthly.

Your tag is "Arts+Culture+Sex+Inspiration". What do you feature/write about the most?
I think its pretty well rounded on a monthly basis - sometimes it can get pretty hot on Pas Un Autre and sometimes I'll cool it down with some Brahms.  I feature a lot of photography, because Pas Un Autre mostly image based - and a lot of those images tend to be women without clothes on. But within the last 6 months I have been writing more on the site, just to make it a little bit more relevant and newsworthy. But again Pas Un Autre can't go too long without some nudity.

What blogs or magazines are you currently reading? Do you have a favorite?
My friend Abbey's tumblr I Will Be Ancient (itwillbeancient.tumblr.com) is great, amazing taste, kindred with Pas Un Autre - Abbey is photographer I feature often on Pas Un Autre. O Astronauta is great, my friend Dustin's site - oastronauta.tumblr.com - he is a film maker - one of his amazing videos was just featured on Nowness - a video he did for Corto Moltedo.  Nowness is a great site! LVMH luxury group runs it.  Interview Magazine is amazing, the current issues, the website, as well as past issues when it was in Warhol's hands are all great.  NY times blog is great, great, great.  Oyster Magazine is great too - from Australia.

You did an art show with DNA last year, are you working on new art or other projects?
Yes, that was a fun show, I like seeing all my art on a wall.  Lets do a photography show!  With Pas Un Autre I have been shooting a lot of photography. Pas Un Autre is pretty much my life right now. Shooting the Pretty Little Thing jewelry line was a lot of fun... Pas Un Autre has a small t-shirt line where we work with retailers, boutiques, etc to create an amazing limited tee just for the store.  A friend and contributor to Pas Un Autre, Adarsha Benjamin, and I just created a very cool t-shirt for a store in London called Viola - amazing boutique.  Also, did a t-shirt for a store Carrots in downtown SF - store is owned by the daughters of the largest baby carrot grower in the world.  I also designed a few prints for Free Gold Watch for their new collection. A lot of these projects feed Pas Un Autre in one way or another - it all allows me to keep publishing great content.

What can we expect from Pas Un Autre next?
Lots.  Satellite blogs - short films, a bi- annual limited print edition, travel diaries from around the world, erotica,  an online boutique, more and more fascinating content.  There will always be something new.  Always new and interesting.
